Want to learn how to give your watercolor landscapes a realistic touch? Then this is a class for you!
I spent years working on my botanical and object paintings always avoiding landscapes. Once I decided to grow and learn how to make my style work for landscapes, my painting world was forever changed. Spontaneous Painting is one of the most popular video types on my YouTube channel. So I've created this workshop from one of those episodes with more realtime footage and a paint-through commentary. Spontaneous painting is a great way to practice techniques and artistic vision in your painting. As a rule I'm a firm believer in composing, planning and gathering good reference for a painting, but sometimes we just want to sit down and paint without all that. Spontaneous painting can be rewarding and yield some surprisingly delightful results. I hope you'll join me in taking a blank sheet of watercolor paper, partnering with "the mind of watercolor", and creating something cool!
Watch along as I work through two intuitive watercolor landscapes. One is an atmospheric watercolor landscape and the other. is a semi-abstract watercolor landscape with trees. You'll see me make decisions as I paint in an intuitive fashion. I often talk to myself while I paint like this as you’ll hear in the video.
As the painting moves along, you'll hear me question a new color that I feel pulled to add to this painting, Deep Sap Green. I'm not entirely sure if it's going to work with this painting, but I take the chance and I add it anyway. And I end up loving it.
One of the things I really love about doing these mini 4.5 x 6” paintings, is that they are just very small pieces of paper so I don't feel precious about it and like I'm wasting paper or paint. This lends itself perfectly to trying new things, learning to trust your intuition, and practicing your painting skills.
Watercolor Forest Landscape Painting: Learn how to paint watercolor trees in mist and birds

My latest watercolor class includes a full tutorial of painting trees in a misty forest. This class includes video with complete voice over in real time as I take you step by step to complete this watercolor landscape. The first few lessons of the class include supplies, understanding value, and brush techniques. And there are two practice lessons in creating a 'mini mountain landscape' that you can practice before starting on the larger forest painting.
Landscape are usually the foundation for any watercolor artist as that is the subject which we usually paint first when we are starting with watercolors. I too started my journey with them and then proceeded to more difficult subjects but still this remains my favorite. So this class is going to be a roller coaster ride for 14 days and everyday there will be one project that I am going to upload.
Every day has a lot of learning like few of the projects are done in limited palette but it has a different approach and key takeaways.
